Gabriela Leite talks about the founding of the prostitute movement in Brazil in 1987. This is part of an interview conducted with Gabriela for the extras on the DVD of the documentary, “A Kiss for Gabriela”, a film that tells the story of her 2010 campaign for federal office by Laura Murray. The video was screened at the SF Sex Worker Fest in 2013.
Gabriela Leite is the first sex worker to run for Brazilian Congress. “A Kiss for Gabriela” tells the story of her 2010 campaign as she faces 822 opponents and challenges a male dominated political system to see if a sex worker, activist, wife, mother, and cultural icon since founding the clothing line, Daspu, can beat the odds and win the election. Gabriela Leite struggled with cancer for several years and passed away on October 12, 2013.
